Bandwidth Enhancement of Low-Profile Metasurface Antenna Using Nonuniform Geometries

Artificial magnetic conductor metasurface antennas are investigated using a robust, surrogate-assisted, differential evolution optimization technique. Using uniform array configuration as starting point, multiple configurations parameterized and the optimizer yields nonuniform geometries exhibiting wideband performance. The bandwidth improvement is attributed to structure’s ability support additional higher-order modes with good impedance matching. A comparison between antenna cases their ‘evolved’ counterparts presented demonstrate advantages of proposed Two prototypes fabricated characterized experimentally confirm designs. first prototype, 3x3 case, measured fractional 36.8% peak gain 8.3 dBi. second 4x4 51.8% 8.8 When compared standard cases, exhibit substantial enhancement.
